Guelph Connections Concerts
This series of chamber music concerts is a unique initiative in Guelph. Many of Ontario’s finest musicians have a strong connection to Guelph that few know about. They may have been brought up here, have family, friends and colleagues here; they may even be your next door neighbors! And yet they have had limited venues to share their music here in Guelph. The musicians of this series regularly play in Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph, and also nationally and internationally. Now through a series of free of charge, late afternoon, short concerts featuring a variety of instrumental combinations, Guelph can hear these fine chamber musicians right here. Some of the groups are well established. Some concerts will be musicians who simply want to play with each other for the thrill of exploring new repertoire. All the concerts are accessible classical repertoire and it is hoped the audience will quickly realize their own vital role in bringing a live performance to life!
The late afternoon time, 4:30 pm, is meant to accommodate a relaxing end of the workday or the beginning of an evening out. The short 30 to 60 minute format makes these concerts of fine, live classical music accessible to busy lives. Seniors will appreciate not having to drive late at night; bring your students after school before homework. The concerts are casual. Come as you are and be warmly welcomed. These concerts are free and always will be free. The musicians want to ensure that anyone and everyone who desires can be a part of this chamber music experience.
The Guelph Connections Concerts are being produced and directed by Emma Banfield, violinist, and Marlena Tureski, cellist. St. George’s Church, 99 Woolwich Street, is proud to be opening its doors and hosting these concerts. We expect more sponsorship will follow — Podium Sponsors, Musician Sponsors and Reception Sponsors are just some of the opportunities — as it is realized that this will be something to put Guelph on the classical chamber music map.
